Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood. Building safer communities means supporting effective policing, improving transportation safety, and ensuring people experiencing mental health, addiction, and housing challenges receive the help they need. My priorities are to:

• Support a balanced “Four Pillars” approach to community safety by advancing prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and enforcement in partnership with senior governments and local organizations. 

• Advocate for a secure treatment and recovery facility for people experiencing complex mental health and addiction challenges who require specialized supports beyond what is currently available in our community. 

• Advocate for a new 24/7 year-round shelter that provides safe emergency accommodation, access to essential services, and pathways toward stable housing. 

• Support the development of village-style supportive housing that provides safe, affordable homes with appropriate supports for people transitioning out of homelessness. 

• Work with BC Housing, Island Health, and community partners to expand supportive housing options that include health services, counselling, employment supports, and life skills training. 

• Improve community safety and neighbourhood cleanliness by working with police, bylaw services, businesses, and community organizations to address street disorder and public safety concerns. 

• Work with neighbourhoods to implement traffic calming and speed reduction measures that improve safety for children, seniors, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. 

• Build safer, more accessible transportation networks through investment in protected multi-use paths, sidewalks, cycling infrastructure, walkways, and pedestrian-friendly street design. 

• Partner with the Province, City of Duncan, Cowichan Tribes, and other agencies to improve traffic safety and reduce congestion along the Trans-Canada Highway corridor, including better local road connections and a multi-use pathway from Boys Road to Beverly Street.
